Welcome

Welcome to the ECDO-2017 conference!

We are pleased to announce the 25th Conference of the European Cell Death Organization, entitled ‘Cell Death and Immunity in Disease: from molecules to translational medicine’, which will be held in Leuven, Belgium, on September 27-29, 2017.

The 25th ECDO Conference will be dedicated to one of the hottest topic in biomedical and cell death research; the intersection between cell death and the immune system, which is central to physiological healing responses, key human pathologies and the development of novel therapeutics.

The Conference aims to bring together top-level international speakers and global leaders of the cell death and immunology fields together with young scientists and clinicians.

The program covers a wide range of critically important topics ranging from molecular pathways of different and emerging cell death modalities and their intersection with the innate and adaptive immunity, to the effects of dying cells on tissues repair, inflammation and microenvironment, to novel approaches harnessing immune effectors for therapeutic purposes in degenerative diseases and cancer.

We anticipate welcoming around 300 international participants, renowned researches, young investigators in training, clinical doctors and students. The ECDO Conference on Cell Death has a long tradition of scientific excellence and lively debate, and the format of the conference, with its emphasis on poster sessions and short oral communications, together with communal lunches and social programs, creates an ideal environment for stimulating discussion and contact between participants at all levels. The ECDO conference is widely considered to be among the best meetings in the conference calendar for cell death research.

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the foundation of the European Cell Death Organization, the Conference will be hosted at the historical sites of the University of Leuven (KU Leuven), a centre of learning for almost six centuries. Founded in 1425, the KU Leuven, the oldest university in the Low Countries, attracted many scholars, who made vital contributions to European culture; the humanist Desiderius Erasmus, the mathematician Gemma Frisius, and the father of modern anatomy, Andreas Vesalius among many others. Based on this solid tradition and foundation, KU Leuven remains renewed  for top-level research and centres of academic excellence. To this day, KU Leuven thrives as a bustling student town with a strong international allure, where various cultures meet and experiences are exchanged.

Situated in the heart of Western Europe, at only 15 min shuttle-train from the airport of Brussels, Leuven will surprise you with its medieval cloth hall, near the famous gothic town hall, the beautifully restored Great Beguinage, and its lively and young University city atmosphere with its countless enjoyable bars and cafés and very lively nightlife.

We hope to welcome you in Leuven at the ECDO Conference on Cell Death and Immunity in Disease, to celebrate together the 25 years of ECDO!
